The herbarium of The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is identified as PAUH in the Index Herbariorum and houses specimens from deep South Texas and Northeast Mexico with emphasis on lowland vascular plants that comprise the flora of the Tamaulipan Biotic Province. First established and registered by the plant systematist, Dr. Robert Lonard, the UTRGV plant specimen collections includes mostly flowering plants but also marine macroalgae from the Gulf of Mexico and its vast, hypersaline Laguna Madre of South Padre Island, Texas. The collection presently comprises around 5500 specimens and is curated by the abiding Plant Systematist in the Department of Biology.
