Growing in generally full-sun, semi-disturbed area of remnant prairie.
dry silty substrate
Herbaceous stems 0.5m tall, branching at inflorescences; hairs on stems and leaves' midribs; leaves long and straight, semi-oblong, alternate all the way up to inflorescence; inflorescence begins as puff of yellow, spiky material with brown center, develops into red petals with yellow tips around outside, dark red center with yellow-orange undertones.
